Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory released the following statement after learning of news that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is set to acquire Lorillard Inc.:
McCrory: Reynolds merger a positive sign for North Carolina business climate
July 15, 2014 • Jobs and the Economy“I am pleased to see continued investment in our state from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company,” said Governor McCrory. “This is another positive sign showing that our business climate continues to improve. I am also told that more jobs will be needed once the acquisition is complete, meaning more jobs in the Triad region at a time when they need them the most. I look forward to continuing relations with R. J. Reynolds and building a new relationship with Imperial Tobacco, which is purchasing the Lorillard factory, headquarters and sales force.”All 2,900 Lorillard employees will become employees of Imperial Tobacco after the acquisition is completed.
