Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory released the following statement after learning of news that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is set to acquire Lorillard Inc.:

“I am pleased to see continued investment in our state from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company,” said Governor McCrory. “This is another positive sign showing that our business climate continues to improve. I am also told that more jobs will be needed once the acquisition is complete, meaning more jobs in the Triad region at a time when they need them the most. I look forward to continuing relations with R. J. Reynolds and building a new relationship with Imperial Tobacco, which is purchasing the Lorillard factory, headquarters and sales force.”

All 2,900 Lorillard employees will become employees of Imperial Tobacco after the acquisition is completed.
