About BobNorth Carolina's first First Gentleman, Robert "Bob" Eaves, was born and raised in Washington, D.C. Bob's father was a native of Rutherford County, NC and Bob followed in his footsteps by attending UNC-Chapel Hill, where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and a major in accounting. After serving two years as a supply officer in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to work for Arthur Andersen & Co. and became a Certified Public Accountant. Bob joined Globe Oil Company in 1963 and was instrumental in its growth from three county gas stations to 110 large convenience stores operated under the "Starvin' Marvin" trademark. At Globe Oil, Eaves became chief operating officer with primary responsibilities in finance, operations, and marketing. Eaves and his partners sold Globe Oil in 1985. He then started another convenience store enterprise, Right Stuff Food Stores, which was sold at the end of 2009. Bob continues to serve on several civic boards that reflect his interests including the Public School Forum of NC, the James B. Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy, the UNC School of Education Foundation, the NC Botanical Garden at UNC, and CarolinaEast Regional Medical Center. Eaves also led efforts to create an on-campus memorial at UNC-Chapel Hill honoring alumni who have died in war. It was dedicated in 2007. The First Gentleman has developed a series of initiatives which reflect his commitment to our state and its people. Celebrate North Carolina, explores the many gifts our state has to offer through public events, education, and opportunities to engage and learn. Inspired by Bob's business experience and life-long support of education, Students@Work challenges business owners to participate in job shadowing events. And, in an effort to provide help to our troops, Carolina Helping Heroes links military families in need to volunteer organizations in their communities. Bob is married to Bev Perdue and has a son, Robert, a daughter, Charlotte, and two stepsons, Emmett and Garrett. He and Ms. Perdue have six grandchildren - Bennett, Jake, Rachel, Sarah, Amelia and Haddie. Bev and Bob also share their home with two dogs, Dosie and Zipper. |
