Gov. Perdue has declared a state of emergency for North Carolina following storms that generated tornadoes across the state. The declaration puts the state’s emergency management plan into action and provides access to resources needed to aid communities affected by the storms.
In a separate order, Gov. Perdue temporarily suspended the restrictions on work hours for utility workers in order to allow the work necessary to repair power lines. The same order temporarily waives the restriction on driving hours for truck drivers to allow for the transportation of supplies to affected communities and for the removal of debris.

Gov. Perdue toured counties that were hit hard by the storms. She planned more stops today in Bertie Halifax and Wilson counties.
