With the new year comes new challenges and opportunities – and the governor’s staff, especially the press staff, are ready to tackle whatever comes our way. But before we said goodbye to 2010 this week, we spent some time looking back over this second year of the Perdue administration.
There was one prevailing theme that stuck out: we were really, really busy. Bev Perdue does not slow down, and rare was a week we didn’t have speeches, events or press conferences to prepare for and pull off.
Because of the governor’s commitment to working hard for the people – and expecting the best from those of us who work with her – we often run so fast we forget what we’ve done. The memories of that time the gov visited the Great Dismal Swamp, or the pink leash Susie the dog wore when she signed the animal cruelty bill, for example, tend to fade as we move on to the next event on the calendar.
Thank goodness we have photos, and two wonderfully talented photographers, Katy Warner and Billy Barrier with DOT, who often travel with us and capture the images that remind us of the fun, the work, and the accomplishments. It was in their pictures – a full 12 months worth – that we were reminded of some of the lighter moments, and of the history that we have been blessed to be a part of.
So here is our year in pictures, 2010. Happy New Year to all, and here’s hoping for even more to be proud of in 2011!
