Gov. Perdue believes, “Every child - no matter where he or she lives in NC - must graduate from high school with what it really takes to succeed in a career, two- or four-year college or Technical training program."
As a part of her Career and College: Ready, Set, Go education agenda she has worked to increase virtual learning opportunities for all students so they can further their education while broadening their career choices.
One example of the Governor’s visionary leadership in the realm of eLearning is her promotion of UNCG’s iSchool which is a dual enrollment program that allows high school juniors and seniors to earn actual college credit while still in high school. Funded by the North Carolina legislature, the courses taught by college professors, allow students to earn honors credit (5 quality points) for high school and earn 3 college semester credit hours for each course taken, if a grade of C or higher is earned.
This unique program has helped thousands of North Carolina high school students start their college careers with advanced standings through the credits they earned prior to admission. In a quest to share their vision of the future for K-12 Education, Microsoft has put together a short video, WE ARE THE FUTURE, to showcase innovative K-12 programs around the world; of the four schools highlighted, the only US school selected was the University of North Carolina Greensboro’s iSchool.
