Is your organization looking for ways to solve problems and make a difference within your community? AmeriCorps can be a solution to addressing unmet local and statewide community needs.
On Nov. 5, Gov. Perdue announced $3.4 million in federal AmeriCorps grants available for North Carolina nonprofit and government agencies interested in starting an AmeriCorps program. These programs transform communities by tutoring and mentoring school aged youth, improving the quality of childcare for preschool children, ending homelessness, assisting individuals with disabilities in gaining employment, conserving the environment and rehabilitating affordable housing to ensure energy efficiency.
In order to apply for the federal AmeriCorps grant, interested organizations must attend a training and technical assistance session, which discusses administrative regulations and policies, as well as program and reporting requirements. To register for one of these workshops, e-mail Alicia Hartsfield, chief AmeriCorps program officer, at alicia.hartsfield@nc.gov, or call 919-715-2278 at least three days prior to the session. Fiscal and programming staff is required to attend. Exact locations will be emailed to you once you register. The workshops are free and will be offered on the following dates:
Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010—Raleigh
Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010—Charlotte
Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010—Winston-Salem
Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011—New Bern
Grant applications are due to the N.C. Volunteer Commission by noon on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011. Application forms are available on the N.C.
