The majority of North Carolinians belong to a faith group. Participation in these groups encourages people to develop relationships with one another that grow out of a shared faith. Established times of meeting together serve to strengthen bonds within these faith communities and foster communication among the members.
Faithful Families Eating Smart and Moving More is a project that works with local faith communities to promote healthy eating and physical activity within the membership. Faith communities already support and pray for each other concerning many life issues, including health needs. Faithful Families encourages each faith community to ‘put feet to their prayers,’ taking additional steps to help one another improve quality of life. The project works with faith leaders to adopt healthy practices that will ensure healthy options are available whenever food is served and encourage members to be more physically active.
On March 23, 2010, the Partners in Health and Wholeness of the NC Council of Churches will sponsor the 2010 Faith and Health Summit in Raleigh. This meeting will give citizens who are members in faith communities or who work with faith communities information and strategies needed to best transform the practices that can directly impact the health of members.
