Howard Lee, Executive Director of the Governor’s Education Cabinet, was awarded today by the North Carolina Chamber. He received the award for distinguished public service.

In North Carolina, the name Howard Lee is synonymous with education. Whether he was fresh out of graduate school helping to keep high school students from dropping out, Mayor of Chapel Hill, a state senator helping to reform public education, Chairman of the State Board of Education, or in his current role in the Perdue Administration as Executive Director of the Education Cabinet; he has spent a lifetime making a difference in the lives of North Carolina students and the citizens of this State.

Through his many accomplishments, Lee is the most proud of the lives he has touched along the way. He believes that touching someone’s life is the ultimate reward.  Whether he was mayor of a city or serving as a North Carolina Senator, or leading the State Board of Education, he always invested in the people he served.  Lee exemplified the “pay it forward” idea, which is the cornerstone of public service. North Carolina is honored and extremely grateful to have such a hallmark public servant.
