No one makes a commitment to assist survivors of domestic violence or help women in transition because they love doing paperwork. Good intentions, however, are not enough to meet the rigorous reporting required of grant-funded agencies.
Failure to accurately document programs and spending can derail efforts that are desperately needed by communities. To assist current and potential future grantees, the Council for Women/Domestic Violence Commission is presenting a series of information sessions this month. The goal is not only to help them prepare a successful application, but also to understand what it takes to meet reporting requirements throughout the fiscal year.
The first such session, designed to help those seeking Displaced Homemaker/Divorce Filing Fee grant funds, will be held today at Catawba County Community College in Hickory. Additional sessions are scheduled for March 17 at Craven Community College in New Bern and March 19 at the DOT Training and Development Center in Raleigh.
A session for Domestic Violence/Marriage License Fee and Sexual Assault grants also will be held March 24 at the DOT Training and Development Center in Raleigh.
The sessions are important because the success of these grant-funded programs can translate into success for the clients they serve. The resources they make available help women restore stability in their lives as well as seek and gain quality employment. They also strengthen families and build better, more caring communities.
