Earlier this week, I lost a dear friend and confidant, Donice Harbor. Donice served as my director of faith and citizens outreach, but to me, and to countless others across North Carolina, she was so much more.
I admired Donice as a leader, an advisor and a dedicated state employee, but I loved her because she was a good soul – an incredible woman who cared deeply for others and did everything with a passion and commitment unmatched by anyone I know. During the 10 years we worked together, she became like a member of my family, and I never hesitated to turn to her when I needed guidance. Donice lived her life with faith and with a wisdom, kindness and grace that made her truly special, to me, to her family, to her Delta sisters and to her colleagues. Her loss will be mourned by many, but we are all better for having known her.
Donice's alma mater, Fayetteville State University, has started a scholarship fund in her memory. To contribute:
