Families across the state will be traveling this summer to one of the many North Carolina vacation destinations, particularly over the July 4 holiday.
As folks are traveling, it is important for them to remember three simple rules that could prevent an unnecessary tragedy: buckle up, obey the speed limit and never drive after drinking.
In 2008, 484 unbuckled motorists died in North Carolina and over the week of Independence Day alone, 12 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes.
That’s why state and local law enforcement officers will be out in force over the Fourth of July holiday as part of the “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. They will be conducting checkpoints and stepped-up patrols across the state through Sunday, July 5, in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our roads and also make sure people are properly buckled.
Let’s all work together to help keep our roads safe.
