The North Carolina State Capitol Building turns 169 years old today!  The Capitol Building first opened its doors on June 10th, 1840.  To celebrate, the NC Division of Historic Sites will be hosting a birthday party on Friday, June 12 on the Capitol grounds.

This celebration will take place on the Capitol’s west grounds from noon until 2 p.m. courtesy of the State Capitol Foundation.  Visitors can enjoy a performance from Raleigh’s own Southern String Band, an old-time string band; make a birthday card for this national historic landmark to be displayed inside the Capitol; and eat some birthday cake! Barbeque lunches from the Barbeque Lodge will be available for purchase.

Also, check out the new interactive movie, launched today, about the State Capitol on the Governor’s website.  Learn some cool facts, some history and get an inside tour of Governor Bev Perdue’s office!
