NCDOT recognizes the importance of giving all businesses the opportunity to do work with the department on transportation projects. Unfortunately, not all businesses have the resources and contacts necessary to find out about these contracts. Through the department’s Business Opportunity and Workforce Development Office, NCDOT is holding a series of outreach meetings in the state aimed at informing Disadvantaged Business Enterprises of contracting opportunities in transportation and on projects funded with monies from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
A Disadvantaged Business Enterprise is a small, independent business that is at least 51 percent minority- or women-owned. At least one of these owners must control the firm's management and daily operations, and the owners must share in the risks and profits commensurate with their ownership interest.
These outreach meetings give DBE’s opportunities to network, to hear from NCDOT field personnel about upcoming available contracts and to learn how to become a certified and prequalified contractor.
So far, these meetings have received great response from businesses that otherwise would not have had as many opportunities to work on NCDOT projects. To date, meetings have been held in Asheville, Charlotte, Edenton, Fayetteville, Raleigh and Wilson. Upcoming meetings will take place in Winston-Salem, Greenville, Greensboro, Carthage and Castle Hayne. Click here for the locations, dates and times.
