This week, I had the honor of being appointed by Governor Perdue to lead North Carolina’s public schools, as Chair of the State Board of Education and CEO of our public school system. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with Gov. Perdue in making our public schools the best that they can be.
I’m committed to Governor Perdue’s vision for a 21st century education system that gives every child the opportunity to succeed in today’s global economy. I also believe that no child has permission to drop out of school.
I look forward to being part of a great team. Outgoing chair of the State Board of Education, Howard Lee, will be Chair of the Governor’s reinvigorated Education Cabinet. And State Superintendent, June Atkinson, will continue with her duties and will lead a new Blue Ribbon Task Force on Career Development and Workforce Issues.
Our work is about the future and there is nothing more important. I’m ready to get to work.
