It's a sad time for our state as North Carolina has lost two of its greatest citizens in just two days - Governor Bob Scott and Coach Kay Yow.

Governor Scott devoted his life to public service - from leading our state as our chief executive, to serving as president of North Carolina's community college system - he always believed that North Carolina could be a better place, with wider doors of opportunity for all our people, and he worked to make it so. Governor Scott will be missed, but his vision for North Carolina will live on.

Coach Yow's leadership, her zest for life, her ability to make us all dig deeper represented the best of North Carolina. She was much more than a basketball coach. She was a teacher, a mentor, and an inspirational leader. She was a devoted Christian; the way she lived her life was an example to us all; I never heard her curse or yell. We are all blessed to have been touched by her life and she will be sadly missed.

I will certainly keep these two great North Carolinians in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you will join me.
