How to Apply

Send a cover letter, brief resume and a completed application to the Office of the Governor. Please be clear for which specific board you wish to apply.

Financial Disclosure

Some regulatory boards require appointees to file a statement of economic interest with the State Ethics Commission to determine the absence of any conflicts of interest.

Registered Voters

Some of the appointments made by the Governor require the appointee to be a qualified voter. A "qualified voter" is defined as a person who:

  • Is 18 years of age or older;
  • Is a United States Citizen;
  • Has not been adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
  • Has not been convicted of a felony, or if convicted of a felony, has had his/her rights of citizenship restored in the manner prescribed by law, and has re-registered to vote.
  • Is a resident of North Carolina; and
  • Is a registered voter.

State Employees

State employees are eligible for appointment to boards. Some appointments specifically call for a state employee to be designated.

Next Steps

Your application and letters of recommendation will be kept on file until the appropriate time. You will be contacted if any additional information is required.

When the time comes for the Governor to make an appointment to the board you have expressed interest in, statutory restrictions that concern the particular appointment are reviewed and information on professional or personal experience needed or preferred for the board's function is gathered. Geographic, ethnic, and gender composition of the current board is considered.

Once the Governor makes her selection, the appointee is notified.
