Presented to outstanding North Carolinians who have a proven record of service to the state. This certificate is most often presented when a person retires. A State Employee is awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine if he/she has 30+ years of service to North Carolina.

Also presented to outstanding North Carolinians for exemplary service to the state. A State Employee is awarded the Certificate of Appreciation if he/she has less than 30 years of service to North Carolina.

Presented to outstanding North Carolinians who give volunteer service to the state.

Is a comical way to make a non-resident an "honorary citizen."
- Laurel Wreath Award
Honors outstanding North Carolina athletes.
- Governor's Student Excellence Award
This certificate is presented to students only. It recognizes a young person's accomplishments or significant contributions in academics, community service, extracurricular activities, etc. Anyone can nominate an outstanding student. Nominations will be considered by the review committee.
