LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, libraries are a place of learning and discovery, a library card is the “smartest card” for all North Carolinians; and
WHEREAS, a library card opens doors to books, magazines, music, movies, internet access, afterschool programs, job searches, business planning and much more; and
WHEREAS, over 2.5 million North Carolinians attended programs annually at more than 250 public libraries in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, nearly 5 million North Carolinians carry a library card; and
WHEREAS, public libraries are the heart of all North Carolina communities with over 37 million visitors each year; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2009, as “LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH” in North Carolina, and urge all citizens to visit their public library and sign-up for a library card.
