About Governor Perdue
Governor Beverly Eaves Perdue is North Carolina's 73rd governor and our state's first female governor. Bev was born and raised in the mountains of western Virginia. She worked as a school teacher and attended colleges in Kentucky and Florida. After receiving a PhD, she moved to New Bern, North Carolina.
In New Bern, North Carolina's first state capital city, Bev raised a family, worked in a community hospital, and was eventually elected to the North Carolina State House of Representatives. Later she was elected to the State Senate, and then became North Carolina's first female Lieutenant Governor.
As a public official Bev earned the reputation as a leader on education and health care policy. And as Governor she has committed herself to bringing jobs to North Carolina and making it easier for citizens to learn about and take part in government.
Bev Perdue is married to Bob Eaves. She has two sons, Garrett and his wife April and Emmett. Bob has two children, Charlotte and her husband Doug and Robert and his wife Michelle. Together they have five grandchildren – Bennett, Jake, Rachel, Sarah and Amelia. Bev and Bob also have two dogs, Tibetan terriers named Dosie and Zipper.
In her spare time Bev enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with her family.
